I could only get interested in something if it had happened several years ago or — even better — if it was written down in a book. Apart from this (somewhat gloomy) fascination with things past, my other primary passion was music (yes, you guessed it, old music). Predictably, I went on to study music at college (BTEC National Diploma in Music Practice, as it was called then, equivalent to A-levels), then history as an undergraduate. My career in languages began after graduating from my BA in 2012, when I relocated to South Korea to work as an English teacher. I went on to work as a teacher in Vietnam and the UK. In 2015, I spent several months in Havana studying Spanish, then decided to make a career change from ESL teaching in 2017. I then relocated to Mexico, where I would live for two years, during which I studied literature, worked with Translators without Borders and began my freelance business. In 2020, I started working as an editorial assistant with the literary journal Trafika Europe, where I’m now a full editor and also contribute literary translations and conduct interviews for broadcast on Trafika Europe Radio. I’m currently based in Coimbra, Portugal, where I intend to end my rambling ways and settle down. In September 2022, I went back to university to study for a Ph.D. on the role of literature in the political project of Salazarism at the University of Coimbra.
